Spotify is extending into the sale of event tickets, which is another area of the music industry.

Spotify quietly introduced tickets.spotify.com, a new website where customers can buy tickets for live music events. Only a small number of events for artists like Limbeck, Annie DiRusso, Crows, Osees, and TOKiMONSTA are currently listed on the website.

In addition to the standard statement that it constantly tests out new products and concepts, Spotify informed TechCrunch that it was only testing the waters with the new service.

Spotify sells “tickets on behalf of third parties, which can include venues, event promoters, fan clubs, and artists (…) as their disclosed ticketing agent,” according to its Terms of Purchase legal documentation. The business emphasises that it has no control over inventory levels or ticket availability. Update: Spotify informed us that these tickets are exclusively available for pre-sale and will come from pre-sale allocations for upcoming concerts by specific performers.

The Information first reported in June that Spotify was thinking about getting into the events industry. However, the report also noted that Spotify isn’t anticipating a quick increase in revenue from ticket sales; rather, the new service would reportedly be a way to improve relationships with artists.

Spotify already offers a Live Events Feed, which has recently been updated, that highlights popular events nearby and directs users to third-party websites where they may purchase tickets. There doesn’t seem to be any connection between this feed and the new Spotify Tickets website.

The introduction of Spotify Tickets is interesting since it comes one week after Ticketmaster partnered with TikTok to sell concert tickets directly on the social media platform, even if it is unlikely that Spotify Tickets will have much of an impact on the market in its current form.

August 10, 2022, 6:10 p.m. EDT UPDATE “At Spotify, we frequently experiment with new concepts and products to enhance our customer experience. Some of those ultimately help to shape our user experience as a whole, while others just serve as valuable lessons. Our most recent test is tickets.spotify.com. At this time, we have no new information to provide on our future plans, a Spotify representative told Mashable.
